A strong salesperson is often visible before formal results appear. The task of recruitment is to notice the candidate's potential, motivation and real sales behavior before competitors do.
Look beyond charm
Many candidates know how to make a good impression. They speak confidently, smile, use sales vocabulary and promise results. This is not enough. A good salesperson is not only communicative; they are persistent, attentive to needs, able to work with objections and disciplined in follow-up.
During the interview, ask for specific examples: how the candidate searched for clients, how they prepared for negotiations, what objections they met, what they changed after failure and how they measured their own effectiveness.
Signals of potential
Pay attention to learning speed, responsibility for results, interest in the product and ability to ask questions. A promising salesperson does not simply talk about themselves; they try to understand the client, the market and the decision process.
Another important sign is how the candidate explains failure. If every unsuccessful deal was caused only by the market, the client or the manager, the person may avoid responsibility. If they can analyze their own actions, they can develop.
How not to miss the candidate
Do not delay the decision when the candidate clearly fits the role. Strong salespeople usually have alternatives. Keep communication clear, explain the process and give feedback quickly.
At the same time, do not hire only because of energy and confidence. Check the candidate through cases, role play, examples of numbers and questions about daily discipline. Sales success is a combination of drive, system and professional behavior.
